
The Problem
As Motorola phones began to include multiple lenses—such as wide-angle, telephoto, and macro—and more sophisticated ISP software, the existing camera app struggled to keep pace. It lacked the functionality needed to seamlessly switch between lenses, utilize computational photography features, and optimize image processing. The challenge was to redesign the app to be more intuitive while enabling users to easily access and take advantage of the new hardware and software features.
Overview
In this project, we revamped Motorola’s 1st party camera app to accommodate the growing complexity of smartphone camera systems, including multiple lenses and advanced Image Signal Processing (ISP) capabilities. The original camera app was outdated and unable to fully leverage the potential of modern hardware. Our goal was to deliver a more intuitive, powerful photography experience that catered to both casual users and enthusiasts by unlocking the full capabilities of the multi-lens system and advanced software features.

Solution
We reimagined the camera app from the ground up, designing an interface that intelligently adjusted based on the lens and mode selected. Users could seamlessly switch between lenses with a single tap, while the app’s UI dynamically changed to highlight the features specific to each lens, such as ultra-wide shots or macro photography. Advanced ISP capabilities, such as HDR, portrait mode, and night vision, were integrated in a more visible and accessible way, allowing users to easily toggle or automate these features for optimal results. The app was also optimized for faster processing, ensuring minimal lag and smooth operation even with high-intensity modes like 4K video recordin
